I hope everyone is having a great day! Today, we have Omkar! Omkar wanted to give back to the community and make a big difference in homeless education!
1. What made you join Homeless HEAL?
I joined Homeless HEAL because I was looking for a way to give back to people who don’t have a lot, and this org allowed me to do that while also focusing on education. That was an interesting angle that other orgs I had seen didn’t have, and so that was really appealing.
2. What was your favorite experience with Homeless HEAL?
My favorite experience with Homeless HEAL was serving as a Lead Instructor for a class about nicotine and alcohol addiction. I had done a similar presentation for Homeless HEAL in the past so it was really cool to be able to see how other people built off of the basic knowledge about these addictions and focused more heavily on different aspects than I did – it gave the topic way more breadth and diversity to have different people make presentations.
3. What do you want people to know about Homeless HEAL?
One thing that I’d want people to know about Homeless HEAL is that while it is a student-run organization, it is way more organized than other orgs with similar leadership setups. I also think the passion of all of the Homeless HEAL team members is really apparent with how much care everyone puts into presentations, fundraising, and product drives.
4. What are your favorite hobbies?
A personal hobby of mine that I picked up in college was joining the club cricket team on campus and learning a new sport. It’s been a ton of fun and I’ve met some amazing people!
